A narrow, long room for an eleven-year-old who wanted a place to hang out with friends, not just to sleep. The bed sits on a steel platform that frees the floor below and takes the full length of the room.

Instead of a railing, a fall net spans the open side, rated for this use and fixed to heavy-duty anchors in the structure. With cushions thrown in, it became the place everyone sits: floating above the room, and safe.

The light is an LED strip in a round profile, held by two transparent suspensions. It rotates in place, so he can turn it himself: one way it washes the whole room, the other it focuses on the pillow for reading.
